Buddy Wilkins- Capital Region
Buddy started in Special Olympics 18 years ago with the Oromocto Chapter 5 Pin Bowling Team. Two years later won a Bronze medal at Provincial Games.
In 2000 he added swimming and snowshoe to his sports and went on to win Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the 2004 Special Olympics National Winter Games.
While he continued in a number of sports it was 2009 at the Provincial Summer games in Saint John, NB, where Buddy won 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medals in swimming and the opportunity to represent New Brunswick at the 2010 Special Olympics Summer Games being held in London. In 2010 he brought back Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal. Buddy's stellar performance in London won him the only NB spot on Team Canada Swim Team for the 2011 Special Olympics World Games in Athens, Greece.
Buddy's involvement with the Special Olympics has enriched his life by giving him the opportunity to become part of a team, lifetime travel adventures, the thrill of competition, and the opportunity to grow as an individual.
