Jane McKeown | Executive Director

Jane has been working with Special Olympics New Brunswick for the past 12 years. Starting out as program director and now Executive Director. Jane brings over 25 years of experience in the health and wellness industry from working in the provincial government and her coaching experience in various sports and with Canada Games. When she is not in the office, you can find her cheering on SONB athletes on the sidelines. 

Jane's primary areas of responsibility are:

  • Organization Development - Strategic Planning, Fiscal Management and Partnership Development, including Law Enforcement Torch Run
  • Fund Development - Events, Stewardship and Partnerships
  • Risk Management  - Policy Development
  • Healthy Athletes

Emma Stone | Program Director

Emma started with Special Olympics NB in October 2018 as Youth Coordinator after graduating from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology Degree.   She then took on the role of Program Director in fall of 2020. Emma first got involved with SONB by volunteering with the Active Start/FUNdamental program that was taking place on the UNB campus.

Emma's primary areas of responsibilities: 

  • Athlete Leadership
  • Coach Education
  • Oversight of Competitive Sport Programs 
  • Provincial Team Program (Team NB)
  • Sport Program Development 

Kate Maston | Youth Coordinator

Kate joined Special Olympics New Brunswick in September 2021 after earning a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Acadia University. After volunteering at Acadia’s S.M.I.L.E Program, Kate soon found her love for children/ adults with intellectual disabilities in the field of sport. Sport has always been apart of Kate’s life. Growing up, she was a competitive ringette player which led her to competing in two National Games representing her province. Kate is still heavily involved in the ringette community today and is now a Level 2 official.

 

Kate's primary areas of responsibility are:

  • Youth Development - Active Start & FUNdamentals & School Partnership Programs
  • Unified Sport Programs
  • Social Media, Communications and Website

Mario Richard | Coach Development & Data Administrator

Mario has been with the office as Coach Development and Data Administrator since 2015. Mario first got involved in 1995 with Special Olympics as a Figure Skating coach and then started the Olympiques Speciaux Peninsule Acadienne region in 2013. He volunteers as Regional Coordinator for the region and coaches Figure Skating, Floorball, Golf, Athletics, Soccer, Bocce, Youth Program and 10 Pin Bowling.

Mario bring to us a vast experience with coaching special Olympics having been to four Canada winter games as Figure Skating coach, two Canada Summer Games as Athletics coach, Four SOC Winter games as Figure Skating coach, two SOC Summer Games as Golf and then Soccer coach and Two SO World Winter Games as Assistant Figure Skating Coach.
